For light field capture, plenoptic imaging, and computational photography pioneers this is the original resource for the masses that will bring the future of photography and cinematography into the hands of the people that will shape these emerging formats. If you own this camera, you need to read this. If you're interested in these topics, you should read this. If a search result returned this, you typed enough that you should check it out.
Josh was a former product manager at Lytro - but don't let that affect your judgement one way or the other, it simply means he has more inside information than many would have had. I love his style. The most useful part of the book is where he addresses the differences between how you would compose a typical 2D scene of a particular variety, and how instead to think of it in terms of light field photography. There's so much more to LF than just - take the shot, focus later. As with any photography it's about the artist behind the lens and Josh gives you a quick start on avoiding some of the pitfalls and points you towards some of the strengths of LF. In explaining LF, he actually compresses what many have to say about 2D into very concise descriptions of how to use depth-of-field - in regular photography (so much so I will have my teenager read this as a primer to their photographic endeavors).
Bottom line, great books - well worth the very modest investment. Some of the "how to use the" - software, mobile app feels a little redundant - but you have to remember the price of this book, all the value and more is in the explanation of how to use this powerful product. I wish more people who have slammed the product had actually tried to learn how to use it - but even many DSLR users are just "point and click" these days - so what do you expect.

It's amazing, using this camera! You get a new, creativ and staggered view on to your photographic objets. One enjoys it very much to play with 3D views, animation or searching for the best presentation. It's a pitty, that the future will not bring an evolution of tjis fine product!
In depth concepts and instructions for the Illum, great reference. Chapter on menu items and playback icons was very helpful.
